10 great Wordpress Plugins for your Art Blog

10 great WordPress Plugins for your Illustration Blog

Plugins can really enhance your blogging platform as well as the experience for your readers.

When I first began blogging I wasn’t familiar with all the plugin options for WordPress, it took me years to discover that there was this wonderful world of plugins out there. To save you some time scouring the internet, I’ve put together a list of my 10 favourite WordPress plugins.

1. Akismet: (Essential) Akismet is quite possibly the best way in the world to protect your blog from comment and trackback spam

2. Broken Link Checker: (Essential) Checks your blog for broken links and missing images and notifies you on the dashboard if any are found.

3. Hover Pin-It: Places a Pinterest Pin It button directly over your images. You don’t need to spend hours pinning your own content, let your readers do it for you.

4. Google XML Sitemaps: This plugin will generate a special XML sitemap which will help search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com to better index your blog. This is very helpful for people to find your blog.

5. Jetpack: A must-have plugin for all WordPress bloggers. Jetpack adds a wide variety of extremely useful features for instance expanded gallery features, related posts links, site icons and more.

6. WooCommerce: An e-commerce toolkit that helps you set up an online store on your website. It can have a little bit of a steep learning curve but it is well worth the trouble, just make sure to read the documentation and otherwise seek out YouTube for help.

7. WP Maintenance Mode: Adds a splash page to your site that lets visitors know your site is down for maintenance. It’s a useful tool that any blog owner should utilize.

8. WordPress Editorial Calendar: The Editorial Calendar makes it possible to see all your posts and drag and drop them to manage your blog. It’s a great way to organize and manage your upcoming content.

9. Easy Tweet Embed: Allows you to easily embed pre-formatted tweets within your blog posts. Like with the Pin-It Hover button, this encourages your readers to tweet out your content.

10. Shareaholic: Whether you want to get people sharing, grow your fans, make money, or know who’s reading your content, Shareaholic will help you get it done.  I’ve found this to be the best Social Media plugin out there, it also has a related content function  to link your blog posts, although I prefer the Jetpack Related Content above Shareaholic’s.

What are some of your favourite plugins? Please let me know in the comments!
