Original Miniature: The Littlest Rhinemaid

30 Paintings in 30 Days: Day 3 – The Littlest Rhinemaid

Day 3 of the challenge. Today was a bit of a challenge, I’m finding it’s difficult to paint with the small size restriction. I’m not able to add as much detail as I’m used to and with the gouache paint getting the right values is proving somewhat difficult. I know it’s just a matter of needing practice, I’m too used to painting digitally and the move to real paints are proving to be a real challenge – however that’s the point of this whole thing. Learning to paint in real paints!

I will have a few days where I’ll be working with slightly larger images and right now I really look forward to that!

Today’s painting strays a little off my theme. I was thinking what my “Wonderland” would look like and the landscape would definitely be Northern given my heritage, that made me think of John Bauer – a famous Swedish illustrator who was known for his fairy tale and troll art, so today’s piece ended up being inspired by his work.
