Autumn is just around the corner and I can’t wait! It’s my favorite time of the year, especially in New York City. The city is so gorgeous during those months and I intend to enjoy it even more this year as it’s my last Autumn here. Come November new adventures awaits as my family will be moving south to the Austin area in Texas.
September’s Daily Painting Challenge
This autumn is going to launch with a 30 paintings in 30 days challenge in September, which I am really looking forward to. The challenge was founded by Leslie Saeta from the Artists Helping Artists podcast. The intent is simply to get artists painting more, last time around Leslie had over 1000 artists joining her in the challenge.
During September I will be posting new paintings daily on the blog as well as Facebook and Tumblr. I have been doing a few paintings in advance to promote the project but also to have a buffer, just in case!
Last year I did a series of miniature paintings before IlluxCon which turned out to be really popular, so I’m doing miniature paintings again along with a few 5″x7″ mixed in. All the paintings will have gorgeous frames again and will be for sale.
I’ve decided upon a theme for the challenge: I’m calling it Finding Wonderland. It will be Alice in Wonderland inspired but not an exact illustration of Alice in Wonderland. For each of the paintings I intend to do a detailed sketch that will be collected into an artist’s sketchbook at the end of the year (schedule permitting).
The sketchbook will also be titled Finding Wonderland and will be an exploration of finding my voice as an artist. It will have some characters from Alice in Wonderland as well as quotes that I find to be meaningful to this artistic journey along with many creatures of my own invention, I hope to share this entire creation process with you and that you will find it interesting and enjoyable.
“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?” - Alice in Wonderland
That is all for now. If you’re interested in reading more about the 30 in 30 painting challenge, or joining it yourself I’ve posted links below for your convenience.
Thank you for reading and I hope you have a lovely weekend!
