5 Great Reference Apps for Artists

1. ArtPose by Shawn Ogle ($2.99) – ArtPose gives you a fully poseable male mannequin. I’ve been very impressed by this app. The joints are fairly easily posed in realistic fashions and as an added bonus you can also add light sources.  If you often find yourself scouring the internet for proper poses for your reference, this app will definitely come in handy.

2. ArtPoseFE by Shawn Ogle ($2.99) Same as above but with a female mannequin instead.

3. Handy Art Reference Tool by Belief Engine ($1.99) This nifty little app is the friend of anyone who struggles with hands. It has a set variety of hand poses but you can spin them around to any angle and add proper light sources. The app developer is also planning on adding heads to this one.

4. PoseBook by Silver ($9.99) PoseBook has a wide selection of reference photos with costumes and props, featuring models from different angles and also close ups of hands, facial expressions and more.

5. PoseBook Female by Silver ($9.99) Same as above but with females.
