About the artist
Pascal Campion is a French-American illustrator and animator and father of three from the San Francisco Bay Area. He recent had a Kickstarter to put together an art book of the daily sketches he has been doing for the past many, many years and let me tell you, the book is absolutely gorgeous.
About the book
It is 9″ x 12″ coffee table book, 272 pages, hard cover embossed binding packed with stories told in visual form. Pascal Campion really excels at storytelling more so than anything. His daily sketches truly captures moments, the book definitely lives up to its title.
If you’re looking for an art lesson in fine art painterly technique this isn’t the book for you, but if you’re looking for a master study in storytelling it absolutely is. There is so much emotion to the artwork.
Throughout the book Pascal also shares experiences from the industry, Q & A sessions, art tips and some really good career advice, especially for aspiring illustrators.
A couple of pages from the book.
This illustration just makes me laugh.
Art tip from Pascal Campion
One of the art tips Pascal Campion shared in the book that really struck home with me was a suggestion on how to improve your work. He said try to do quick pieces where you focus on capturing the emotions of a memory that’s very special to you. It could be something like your first day at school, first time you met your first pet or even something more mundane like what you had for breakfast. Just try to capture what you felt in that moment and make that the directive for the art and see what happens!
Thank you for reading, I hope you found this book recommendation worthwhile. What are some of your favourite art books? Let me know in the comments!
