Green Witch Tarot: Publication Date & Update

Disclaimer for new readers: Welcome! I am in the process of illustrating a full tarot deck for Llewellyn Worldwide, the artwork has been shared here with permission from the editor. There is no release date yet for the deck, but it should be some time in 2015. It will be a full 78 card deck with no borders. The author behind the project is Ann Moura, who is widely known for her Green Witch books.

Green Witch Tarot: 10 of Athames
10 of Athames Symbolism

The art for the Green Witch Tarot are nearing the deadline. I only have 6 illustrations left to finish at this point in time. Here’s one of the most recent cards I finished that I really liked; the 10 of Athames. The mandrake the witch holds symbolizes healing, overcoming challenges and  banishing negativity. The boars suggest determination, power and protection.

I had such a blast painting this piece. It’s the first time I’ve painted boars and researching their appears was so much fun (Piglet boars are adorable!).

Artist’s Limited Edition

I am currently planning what to do with the copies of the set that I receive as part of my contract, I will be making an Artist’s Limited Edition that will be for sale exclusively on my website here. I haven’t set in stone what the limited edition will include yet but I am thinking something along the lines of the following:

  • Signed Deck & Book.
  • A tarot bag.
  • A 2016 Calendar with art from the deck.
  • A bookmark with art from the deck.

What do you think, does that sound interesting? Do let me know in the comments.

Publication Date

Now for something I know many of you have long waited for. When will it be published?Llewellyn Worldwide has set the publication date to September 8th, 2015, so mark your calendars.

Illustration Process

To those interested I have compiled a step by step gif of the illustration process for the 10 of Athames. This card was pretty straight forward. Ann Moura’s description of the art made it very easy to sketch out and we were on the same page with colors and details. It’s been such a pleasure to work with her on this project.

It’s looking so good Kiri! I like the idea of a book showing the process and your thoughts and insights! A sketch card the size of the deck would be a nice inclusion.

Thank you Andrea, I will definitely do an art book of the deck’s creation. Sketch cards are a good idea too, thank you for the input!
