Pencil drawing of three mermaids sitting on the back of a giant tortoise

Personal work: Mermaid Sketches

I’m trying to familiarize myself with traditional techniques again by doing a lot of mermaid studies. My goal is to have 2-3 good traditional watercolor pieces to show at IlluXcon in September. Some of the following sketches have been turned into more refined pieces whereas others are just staying as sketches. I’m really enjoying the practice. There is a whole different level of satisfaction to create a traditional piece where you have an original in the end as opposed to illustrating digitally.
