We have midterms at Pratt Institute. Our professors have us bring in samples of the work we have created during the semester. They give us an estimated grade based on it.

Looking through my school studies I felt a little embarrassed, as I thought myself capable of producing better. However it is well known you are your own worst critic, so maybe it isn’t so bad after all. In school it is less about using your personal style and more about using the techniques the teachers set forth, experimenting and being pushed beyond your comfort level – which in turn is how you grow and learn.
